No wonder I have a countdown app on my iPhone. As I type this it shows 8 days, 21 hours, 49 minutes, and 12 seconds until I am on my way to Two Holt. I hope I find two rows of canned lights...three in a row...spaced well...on separate switches...each with a dimmer. But then again, Phil and the electrician may decide differently. ;)
The time until school is out is s-l-o-w-l-y ticking by. Each day brings new frustrations as I try to offer my input (ok--CONTROL) the changes Phil is overseeing. Before Phil left to go back to Two Holt earlier this week, I had planned certain changes. I had debated back and forth--pendant lighting, mini-pendant lighting, or two rows of canned lighting for the kitchen and island area. In the end, I decided against pendant lighting. I love pendant lighting over an island but our cooktop is on the island and I can just see steam and grime rising up and making a film over those lovely pendants. Or what if those pendants get a bit dusty and tend to shed stuff into my pots while I'm cooking. And it's a small cottage with a fan/light in the living room (which Phil would absolutely not let me even THINK about removing) so extra lights hanging down in that area would probably be too busy...especially with our ceiling height. No...no pendant lights, Phil. I've decided on two rows of canned lights on two separate switches with dimmers. Decision made, right? Phil called this afternoon, "The electrician thinks pendant lights would be nicer. Can you go to Lowes.com and pick some out for him to install Friday?" SAY WHAT?? So I started listing my reasons why I had decided against the pendant lighting and Phil says, "Well, he does this for a living. He knows whether or not those lights should go over the island." BUT PHIL...HE INSTALLS THE LIGHTS. HE DOESN'T LIVE WITH THEM AND COOK UNDER THEM AND CLEAN THEM! Besides, I can't just pick out pendant lights in a couple of hours from the Internet. Don't change the game plan on me now, Phil!
