My gardening confidence was bolstered with the return of every perennial we planted last year. So I won't hesitate to add more stargazer lilies, toad lilies, astilbe, corabells, japanese painted fern, coneflowers, shasta daisies, and hosta. And I'll be trying out a few more perennials. But this short weekend trip was more about potting up colorful annuals for the window box, garden and porch pots, and hanging baskets.
I lucked into a distressed plant sale at Lowe's where I bought two hanging baskets ($2.50 each), two trays of wax begonias ($2.00 each), Solenia begonia 6-pack ($2.00), and two calibrachoas (75 cents each). Look at the photograph below and tell me, "Do you think these plants are distressed?"
On Thursday evening before I drove up, Phil sent these pictures. Oh, just look at that first picture! How peaceful, calm, light, airy, fresh...it's just what I wanted! The outside view is slowly growing on me. I think what bothers me is the amount of lattice underpinning. I'm not a fan of lattice and it just seems to jump out and scream for attention. But with a gentle sweep of shrubs making the lattice peek out from behind, I think it will be more to my liking. I was trying to pull away from the "cabin" feel and move toward a "cottage" feel and I think we're accomplishing that goal.
Sunday morning we enjoyed a few hours together at Two Holt before I left for Alabama. In just a few weeks I will be returning for the summer. Enjoy your private tour of the walk up to Two Holt in the video below. Ahhh...come on, summer...Two Holt is calling me.
