The hardy board siding is going up and we're painting it our favorite gray from Benjamin Moore Paints-- Timber Wolf. However, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to add a little touch I've always adored. We've added fish scale siding to the front gable. We painted it two shades lighter than Timber Wolf-- a color Benjamin Moore calls Silver Lake. We defined the area by adding trim across the entire gable separating the fish scales from the hardy board. For some odd reason, the fish scale siding doesn't show up as well in photographs as it does in real life, but here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of how it looks. Next week we will finish the electrical wiring and add the roof. Then we're ready for our next inspection. More pictures will come soon!

Two Holt's windows and doors are now installed. Both decks are up and the railings are finished. We'll let the pressure treated lumber dry for a few months and paint the railings later this summer. Hardy board siding is up on the front and far side along with the first coat of paint. Fish scale siding has been special ordered and should arrive on Monday to be placed in the front peak area above the doors and windows on the top deck. The original cottage and the new addition are now connected by a seven addition to the cottage floor and screened deck floor. The original roof will need to be extended, too. The plumbing has been roughed in which is great progress, but doesn't make for exciting pictures. Tomorrow the heating and air conditioning contractor comes to begin running the duct work. This place may be ready for me when I retire July 1st!
Phil and I took our dog, Boots, for a ride today and decided to check out Highlands Dog Park. What a sweet place! There are two fenced in areas--one for small dogs and one for large dogs--with lots of room for doggies to explore off the leash and their humans to sit and watch. Boots checked out the fire hydrant... and he played with lots of tennis balls and a Frisbee which were out for the doggies to enjoy. Just as we were loading up to leave two more pet owners arrived with their dogs. I could tell that this was a familiar place to those three dogs as they arrived with tails wagging ready to romp and play. It's delightful that Highlands is such a dog-friendly place. Phil and I will be returning with Boots very soon.
