Can't you just picture the gable trim (right picture below) on each of Two Holt's gables? I just know it's going to be perfect!
I surely love receiving presents for Two Holt and I wasn't disappointed this year! It started when a very special friend brought me this gift which I can't wait to hang on Two Holt's screened porch. And this indoor/outdoor thermometer and atomic clock for Phil will ensure he doesn't have to bundle up to go outside and check the temperature on those cold mornings and evenings. But our favorite gift is this...gable trim which I'm sure we'll enjoy installing together! *wink, wink* Can't you just picture the gable trim (right picture below) on each of Two Holt's gables? I just know it's going to be perfect! Merry Christmas, Two Holt! We'll be coming back to you soon!

Perhaps Thanksgiving at Two Holt will become our new tradition. Phil picked me up at school at noon on Tuesday and we were off to Two Holt. Rain had moved into much of Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina and we knew our travel time would be impacted. Thankfully, we only hit a couple of minor bottleneck traffic slow downs in Atlanta. Once we were through Atlanta and approaching Buford, Georgia, we began hearing radio reports of significant delays beginning in Atlanta traffic...our timing for this trip was wonderful! We pulled into our driveway at 5:00 p.m.--thirty minutes before sunset. Phil turned on the water while I turned on the heat. We unpacked the few things we brought and settled in for a relaxing evening. Wednesday morning we woke up early and were greeted by a light falling snow which had dusted the landscape. Temperatures were in the upper 20's, and were expected to drop throughout the day. We decided to run a few errands while we still felt comfortable with the road conditions. Weather reports differed with predictions of no further snow accumulations and predictions of 1-2 inches of wet snow. We drove down to Main Street where the roads weren't busy at all. We admired the town Christmas tree awaiting the 6:00 lighting ceremony on Saturday. On the way back to Two Holt, we stopped at The Bascom which is a visual arts center in Highlands. We didn't visit the entire campus today, but I do plan on spending a day there next spring or summer. This day we just wanted to admire the entrance to The Bascom--an 80-foot long covered bridge. We hadn't been home long, when Phil asked if I wanted to take a walk. The sun was shining, the snow was still lightly falling, and the temperature was down to 24 degrees. A walk? Why, sure! We bundled up and walked down the street and around the corner to a little sitting park at Mirror Lake. We quickly returned to the warmth of Two Holt and only ventured out one more time later that afternoon to add a little protection for the sleeping perennials in our garden pots by wrapping the pots with insulation. Thanksgiving morning we were hustling and bustling as we prepared a few dishes for our Thanksgiving meal. Our brother, Larry, and his friend, Susan, drove up to spend Thanksgiving with us. We enjoyed a day of eating and talking at Two Holt.
It surely had been getting cold each night. We left the faucets dripping to ensure we didn't have to deal with frozen pipes, but Phil didn't leave the outside faucet dripping fast enough Thanksgiving night and this is what we had Friday morning! Phil and I drove down the mountain to visit with Larry and Susan in Hendersonville, North Carolina. We had lunch together at A Day in the Country and then shopped at their store. I loved this unique water fountain I found in the little shop and thought it would be cute on Two Holt's screened deck. Phil despised it saying it featured crows which he does not like. And, he quickly pointed out, the crows aren't drinking water, but rather vomiting water. Needless to say, the little water feature lost its appeal after Phil's vivid description and I didn't purchase it. We spent a little time shopping in downtown Hendersonville. I love the quaint little shops lining the street. We left Hendersonville about 4:00 to try and get back to Two Holt before dark. We enjoyed our time with Larry and Susan on this trip.
Saturday was college football game day for us! We put on a big pot of spiced apple cider to simmer and settled in to watch the games. We're both Auburn alumni and we were anxiously awaiting the biggest rivalry game of all--Alabama (#1) vs. Auburn (#4) to be played that afternoon. We decided to wait and see how the game was going before making plans to attend the lighting of the town Christmas tree. If you know ANYTHING about that game, then you already know we didn't make that Christmas tree lighting and with good reason--WAR EAGLE! Sunday was a sad day for me. We closed up Two Holt for the winter. We'll return in April 2014 to open Two Holt back up and we have big dreams for our 2014 projects. I'll share those with you in the next few months. |
