Phil and I enjoyed our Memorial Day weekend in Highlands. We spent Saturday and Sunday afternoon working in the garden and I will soon post those pictures in our Year 4 in the Garden post. After our Saturday garden work we took a nice little walk which was more like a slow stroll through the Mirror Lake community. We walked and reminisced about long time residents who are no longer with us and we admired the work being done on homes ready for a fresh update by new owners. We often wonder if Mrs. Cora Shaddick (the original owner of Two Holt when it was known as Aunt Cora's Cottage) would be pleased with the changes we've made. On our way to church Sunday morning we stopped and took a picture and then we took another picture as we walked up to the church. Aren't the flags colorful? We met another couple at church, Rick and Deborah, who have a place at Sapphire Valley and drive up to Highlands for church each Sunday when they're in town. They live in Naples, Florida, but we discovered they are originally from Valley, Alabama just a short drive from our Alabama home and Rick is an Auburn graduate. We had lots in common. After church Phil and I walked into the new Mexican restaurant and there were Rick and Deborah with another couple. They invited us to join them at their table. We met Terry and Jan and enjoyed talking with them all. Terry is a retired South Carolina state trooper and gives private lessons for those wishing to secure a concealed carry weapons license. They have a place at Yellow Mountain near the Norton community...not far from Highlands. We love meeting new people in our Highlands community!

I finished the school year on Friday before Memorial Day and headed up to Two Holt where Phil was already waiting. We added a patriotic touch to Two Holt and plan to leave these decorations up through July 4th. I ordered the wooden flag from Grandin Road, one of my favorite online shops. The pillows came from Pottery Barn. My dad died on January 31st this year...I miss him so much. The yellow coffee pot set seen in the picture below was in his barn and I knew I had to bring it to Two Holt. See the small red and white striped suitcase piece on the second shelf? That was one of my Christmas presents when I was a young girl. I brought it to Two Holt, too. Wouldn't it look cute propped open just a bit with blue or white silk flowers spilling out? I think that may be a future project for me. We also added a few patriotic touches inside Two Holt. I ordered the pillow from Pottery Barn and the patriotic gems in the lamp came from Pier One. I've had the Uncle Sam teddy bear for many years. Recently I've been collecting printable art on Pinterest so I printed the one shown in the picture below and put it in a frame I purchased from Hobby Lobby...simple, inexpensive, and cute. What's not to love about that? It's been a great holiday weekend at Two Holt. I hope you've had a good one, too!
