The great solar eclipse of 2017! Where were you? We were right here at home in Highlands, standing on our upper balcony in the path of 100% totality! Thousands of visitors poured into Highlands so we decided to eclipse in place. This picture was taken at 11:00. See the beautiful sunshine pouring over us? Total eclipse was expected at 2:35. And we were so excited! We even wore our eclipse t-shirts. At noon, we were a little concerned as clouds rolled in. Would the whole event be blocked by cloud cover? At 1:00 the clouds were looking more threatening. At 2:00 we were losing hope as the clouds seemed to settle in. At 2:30 we were still covered in clouds but I decided to sit on the upper deck and experience totality through the clouds. Look how fast day turned to night at 2:36! You'll hear a few people cheer as darkness overtakes us and the nighttime creatures start singing. And then the most beautiful thing happened. The clouds parted and there it was... a TOTAL eclipse! Beautiful! And we did get to see it! Afterwards Phil and I hurried down to get ready for neighborhood guests we had invited for a cookout. We enjoyed good food and even better company as we talked about our amazing day! And then we gathered around the 'photo booth' where we grabbed a few props and struck a pose for pictures to remember the day! Have I mentioned how much I love our Mirror Lake community in Highlands? Well, I do!

Cool stuff and great shots!! Glad the clouds parted for you at the right time! Looks like you threw a really fun bash. I know for a fact how well y'all feed guests, so it's guaranteed that no one left hungry!

We had a great view from right outside Susan's apartment. We put a beach towel down on the grass and watched the (probably about 99%) eclipse without having to fight the traffic! Didn't even mind when some of the neighbors who came out to watch pointed out that we were right on the spot where people's dogs peed. I said "that's okay - that's what washing machines are for!" We didn't have any clouds to contend with, though there were quite a few in the sky nearer the horizon. Some of Susan's neighbors got some great photos, but we didn't try to take any. I enjoyed your photos and videos. Really hated the fish planter theft. Bunch of nowhere people who'd do a thing like that! Leave a Reply. |
