Progress continues towards making Two Holt our permanent home after a nerve-wracking time of getting approval from Highlands to move forward. North Carolina is very protective of its beautiful natural resources and Highlands has a strict Watershed Protection Permit application process. We're only allowed to cover 12% of our land and that includes the house, walkways, covered deck, and driveway. Even gravel is considered an impervious surface and counts against us. We purchased the lot behind us to increase our footprint so now we front on two roads: Hickory Hill and Wyanoak. But it still took the town planner, surveyor, and grading contractor two days to determine that we were within the limits. We wound up with more than 200 feet to spare. Whew! With the approval in hand we hired a tree cutting company to take down ten large trees to make room for the next stage of putting in our new driveway and digging out the basement garage. It pained us to see the maples, hickories, and pines go and those people passing by each day are probably wondering what is going on at Two Holt. The grading contractor's brother came to pick up the trees. He lives a few houses up the road from us. I know he'll be able to split and chop that wood into several nice loads of firewood. So here's where we are and here are the plans for where we're going. It's hard to believe we're almost there! Stay tuned! We're on our way!

Looks like a lot of fun. Happy ventures. Sounds like you and Phil will have a show place. Highlands is so beautiful. God bless you both in your venture of love.

I hope it all turns out as beautiful as we think it will. Right now, it's in that ugly phase---looking all empty and scalped by taking down such a large number of trees. A couple of community walkers have made snide remarks to Phil about cutting down the trees. :(

Really excited for you, and looking forward to having you as North Carolina neighbors (well, 60-miles-apart neighbors).

60 miles is nothing because Atlanta won't be in the way! :)
