One year ago the grading contractor built our new driveway. We ended up with three parking areas--our original parking area, a new drive up to our side garden, and garage parking. The contractor advised us to wait until spring to pave so we waited. In late spring Bryson's Paving met with us and advised us to wait until all heavy building materials had been delivered so we waited. We watched deep ruts form in our driveway as the heavy delivery trucks continued to come. So on Day 1 of the paving project, the workers took out the ruts and evened out the drive again and then they put in conduit so we can have electricity at each land area and at the road... Then the guys rolled over the base to pack it and make it smooth. Finally they spray painted the edges for the asphalt as they wrapped up the first day. On Day 2 the crew was there bright and early as they waited for the asphalt to be delivered. And look what arrived a couple of hours later... A crew of seven got busy dumping and spreading the asphalt. After dumping, spreading, and tamping a load of asphalt, the section was rolled with another machine while the dump truck driver drove off to pick up another load of asphalt. Next, the crew went back and added an asphalt curb to deter rain water from washing over the slope beyond the drive. The curb also adds a finishing touch to the sides. The second load of asphalt went down while the truck took off for the third load. By the time the fourth truckload came, Phil had arrived from Alabama in his truck which was packed with furniture. I missed its arrival and the work of spreading it over our lower parking area as we unloaded furniture. I did get a picture of the fifth and final truckload. And now it's finished! It's roped off so no one will drive on it for a week, but next Thursday I can drive on it for the first time!

Looks great! Smooth and plenty wide, plus really nice to have the curbs, too. I know you'll enjoy it tremendously. I remember what a huge improvement the paved driveway was at Toe Holt...completely changed the experience of visiting the cabin.

It's amazing how having the drive lifted my spirits. Pedro finished the retaining wall in the back and he did a fantastic job! I will blog about it soon. The sheetrock is finished inside. Still to go---light fixtures, fireplace, bookshelves, refinishing floors, pantry, and trim. Phil is still painting outside. :)
