Phil and I arrived at Two Holt Thursday evening. On Friday Phil stained the garden arbor with 'Timber Wolf' which is the same stain used on the screened deck floor. I planted up several pots of flowers for the screened deck and garden area. A very good friend brought me a lamp because the yellow reminded her of Two Holt and I placed it between my two big rockers on the screened deck. Thank you, Grace! On Saturday, Phil added three Drinking Gourd hostas to the garden. We brought these from our home in Alabama. I love these hostas--the leaves grow in a cup shape and hold rain water which will be delightful to see here in Highlands where a brief shower is almost guaranteed each day or so. Our large blue urn of Jack Frost brunnera was almost covered up by the vigorously growing Sum & Substance hostas in front. Phil and I stacked a couple of pavers under the urn to elevate it so that the pretty blue could be seen just a bit. Mission accomplished! We added a Ramona clematis to the garden, planting it behind one of the boxwoods at the deck. I can just imagine the vine with its big blue blooms growing up the wall and over the screen door. Early in the evening, Phil and I went to Main Street for a cup of Kilwin's ice cream. We sat watching the people enjoying Highlands...some all dressed up and headed into one of the highly acclaimed restaurants, some strolling casually along just enjoying each other. We watched the people at a restaurant with open deck dining on a rooftop across the street and decided we would eat there soon. After ice cream, we took our own stroll on Main Street. We peeked in Scudders' Galleries as the auction was just beginning to get underway and did a bit of window shopping as we passed several of my favorite Main Street shops. I returned to a few shops on Sunday afternoon after church services and purchased a tic-tac-toe game to leave on the screened deck for the grandkids to enjoy whenever they visit Two Holt. And, like we always do, we enjoyed a few early evening walks along the roads in the Mirror Lake community. Oh, how I love this place! It's time to return to Alabama and work a little more to prepare for the next school year, but we'll be returning soon!
