Have you noticed all the Facebook pages for communities across the US participating in the PAINTED ROCKS projects? The idea is to have lots of people paint fun or inspirational rocks, post the Facebook information on the back of the rock, and then hide the painted rocks around the community. Those finding the rocks may keep or re-hide after posting a picture of the rock on Facebook. The "Columbus GA Rocks" Facebook caught my attention a few weeks back. I loved following the Facebook page and seeing the creative rocks placed around that town by their 12,000 members! Not all the paintings are as beautiful as the ones below but all rocks are celebrated. What fun! I decided to start a Facebook page for Highlands and set it up as 'Highlands NC Rocks'. Then I enlisted Phil's help and started collecting rocks and painting. Through trial and error we found it best to use acrylic paint, small paintbrushes and sometimes toothpicks to apply the paint, and spray sealer to protect the rocks from weather. These rocks were placed around Mirror Lake... We painted a few to place around our church, First Baptist... And a couple for the hospital grounds... The remainder were placed around Main Street... Phil and I hope these rocks will bring a smile to those who find them. Meanwhile, we'll be painting a few more rocks. We hope to find a few rocks painted by others one day soon!
