Phil and I drove the 1 1/2 hour trip to Hendersonville where we met up with our brother, Larry, and his wonderful friend, Susan. We all took a trip to Tryon, North Carolina for the annual Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival. It is a beautiful setting for a festival with the mountains looming in the background. Our first decision at the festival was which barbecue to try. We decided to sample the returning champ's barbecue...as you can see from the trophies, these guys take their barbecue seriously! We set up our chairs to enjoy the music and the food. Next stop for our crew was to decide between the craft show vendors or the antique car show. We made a quick trip weaving through the different vendors, but didn't see anything that caught our attention so we walked over to see the antique cars. Isn't it funny when those antique cars bring back so many memories? Well, the brothers discussed cars and shared memories as they looked at the dozens and dozens of beautiful old cars! We later returned to one of the music areas to hear another couple of bands. This time we picked a nice shady spot--it was surely a hot day with temperatures topping out around 85 degrees. That might not be hot by Alabama standards, but last night in Highlands we needed a fire to warm us a bit. We said goodbye to Larry and Susan and began the drive back to Two Holt. I couldn't resist stopping when we came to Toxaway Falls for a quick picture. It's been years since we've explored this area. Phil and I may have to plan a day trip to Toxaway soon! As we neared Highlands we stopped for a picture of Whiteside Mountain. Did you know that Whiteside is thought to be the oldest mountain in North America? Some geologists claim that it is the oldest mountain in the world! Recently it has been a successful spot for the reintroduction of the endangered peregrine falcons, but we weren't lucky enough to see the falcons soaring today. I love looking at Whiteside, but I also love looking at the range of mountains which seem to go on and on and on... We arrived back at Two Holt just before dark. The screened deck was inviting us for a visit and we happily accepted! We rocked and talked about how good the day was and how we love spending time with our brother, Larry, and Susan. I can't wait until our next adventure with those two!

Sharon, thank you for the very kind comments. Susan and I certainly enjoyed experiencing the festival with you and Phil, too. Thanks for making the trip over for it. I love your report and photos on the festival that you've included here.
